FAQs
Questions families often ask.
-
Not quite, though they're closely related. Gillespie Approach™ Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) was developed by Dr. Barry Gillespie, a periodontist who trained directly under CST pioneer Dr. Viola Frymann before adding a second discipline, myofascial release, studied under John Barnes, PT.
Craniosacral therapy (CST) focuses on the system surrounding the brain and spinal cord. CFT builds on that foundation by also addressing the fascial web, the connective tissue that surrounds and connects every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel, and organ, treating both systems together to support greater ease, balance, and function throughout the body.
-
Massage typically works by manipulating muscle tissue through pressure and movement. CFT takes a different approach: very light, sustained touch that works with the nervous system's own signals, supporting the body's natural ability to release tension and reorganize, rather than pressing or working it out directly.
-
For most people, yes. CFT uses an extremely gentle touch and is appropriate for infants, children, and adults. Before your session, we'll review your health history to ensure treatment is appropriate for your individual needs. If there are any concerns or contraindications, I'll discuss them with you before beginning care.

Sessions are quiet and unhurried. You'll lie fully clothed while I use very light, sustained touch at different points on the body. Many people describe it as deeply calming, sometimes drifting into a meditative or sleep-like state. Others feel a subtle sense of ease, warmth, or release in a specific area. If your body wants to shift, sigh, or release something during a session, that's welcome, you don't need to hold still or "do" anything in particular. Some notice something during the session itself; others notice changes in the hours or days after. There's no "right" way to experience it.
-
While some people notice meaningful changes after a single session, I often recommend beginning with an initial series of three sessions. Rather than following a fixed schedule, spacing between sessions is guided by how your body responds, giving it time to integrate each session before the next. From there, we'll decide together whether continued care feels appropriate for your goals. You're always welcome to begin with a single session and decide from there.

Yes. All sessions are mobile and take place in the comfort of your home throughout North County San Diego. Children often feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings, and many adults appreciate being able to relax without the stress of traveling before or after their session.

Wear whatever feels comfortable. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, so I recommend soft, comfortable clothing that allows you to relax. There's no need for special attire.
-
No special preparation is needed. Simply arrive as you are. I recommend staying hydrated before and after your session and allowing yourself a little extra time afterward, if possible, to rest and notice how your body feels.
For infants and children, there's no need to keep them awake or change their normal routine. They'll be most comfortable simply being themselves.
-
Absolutely. Children don't need to lie still to benefit from CFT. They may play, move, cuddle, nurse, rest, or simply explore the room while I follow their lead. Sessions are adapted to each child's needs, and working within their comfort and curiosity is often part of the treatment itself.
-
I do not bill insurance. However, many clients are able to use HSA or FSA funds to pay for their sessions. Because coverage varies by plan, I recommend checking with your benefits administrator to confirm your eligibility.
